Depth of Field Part II: Irises

   More Videos from"The Gearu

This is the second part of my series about Depth of Field. Hope it's helpful, I wanted to try and cover the basics of the theory behind this stuff so that people could get in to the specifics on their own with a greater understanding of how things work. Please comment with questions!

Also, if you you're curious, this was shot on the F3 with a 50mm CP2 and edited entirely in After Effects.

Depth of Field Part I: Circles of Confusion

Here's the first video in a series I'm going to do on depth of field. I really want to get into the nuts and bolts of how depth of field works and how to control it. To that end, I think the place to start is with circles of confusion, a concept that informs almost every other aspect of DOF. As always, please feel free to comment if you have any questions!!!

Atomic PL Mount for the FS100 Demo

Atomic PL Mount for the Sony FS100. It works just like the AF-100 mount which means it's light, durable and snaps together in seconds. The adapter is available by itself ($695) or with a rod support system ($875)

Sensor Sizes and Crop Factors

There are a lot of different options out there for lens sizes and sensor sizes. Hopefully, this video will help clear up some of the confusion!

Shooting Behind the Scenes with the AF-100 (Part 1)

First of three videos where I discuss how to get the best exposure when you're shooting behind the scenes on location. Most of the time you won't have any control over the lighting and may not have monitor to work with. This first video is a brief intro to your most powerful tool for quick, accurate exposure, the waveform monitor.

Shooting Behind the Scenes with the AF-100 (Part 2)

I wanted to talk about how to use gain when you can'tcontrol your light levels. Ideally we would always have enough light to shoot without ever increasing the ISO but sometimes that's just not possible.

Samy's Variable LED Light Demo

Here's a demo of a cool new on camera LED light that we're renting. It's a total lifesaver when you're dealing with location shooting in available light. I wish they made a ring light version!

Kessler Cineslider and Hercules Head Demo

Demo of our new Kessler Cineslider and Hercules Head. I always get requests for sliders and we took our time buying one to make sure we got the best out there. I think it was well worth the effort because I am very impressed with this piece of gear.

Kipon EOS to Micro Four Thirds Adapter Test

Just a quick demo and some footage shot on the AF-100 with the Kipon EOS to Micro Four Thirds adapter.

Until the Birger electronic mounts come out (taps foot impatiently) this is the only way we have to use Canon lenses with internal apertures like everyone's favorite L- series zooms and primes.

Atomic AF-100 PL Mount Demo

Check out our Atomic PL Mounts! We actually got to help design these and they came out great. Super easy to use and very solid and safe. The mounts are designed to have the correct flange depth so as long as your lenses are collimated properly, you should have accurate focus marks. I also really like how easily the mount comes on and off without allen wrenches or screws.
