AJA’s debut camera, the CION, will begin shipping at the end of this month. The camera was supposed to be released this past summer, but much like another hardware-turned-camera-maker, AJA faced some production and the camera was delayed.
The Digital Bolex team has taken an entirely new approach to building a camera. They’ve been letting everyone in on the entire development process through posts on their blog and videos. Digital Bolex has been dedicated to creating an affordable camera that can capture amazing images. It seems that very soon, quite possibly even before Christmas, we will be seeing the fruits of their labor as the Digital Bolex D16 is almost ready to ship.
Almost two weeks ago, Blackmagic issued a firmware update for the Pocket Cinema Camera that allowed it to record RAW. Today, they’ve released a new firmware that fixes a “weird” motion blur that occurs when shooting at a 180 degree shutter angle in 23.98 and 24 fps.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera was supposed to have RAW recording capabilities when it began shipping at the end of the summer. In true Blackmagic fashion, the RAW was not ready and buyers were told it would be coming later in a firmware. Well the time has arrived and you can now shoot RAW on the BMPCC.
Big news from Canon: the same dual pixel AF technology that is in their 70D DSLR employs will soon be available for their C100 video camera. The C100 was designed with run and gun, corporate, wedding, news, and documentary shooters in mind so it’s only natural for it to be the first camera in the C line to get this technology.
We definitely know the waiting list for DRAGON updates is long, but no one was exactly sure who would be where on the priority list. Yesterday, on REDUser, Jarred released the in order in which they would roll out DRAGON. He also released some exciting news, they have “slipped HDR-X in when nobody was looking”. HDR-X wasn’t expected until a later firmware update.

The GH2 (especially hacked ones) became a popular choice for indie filmmakers in the beginning of the DSLR video revolution. However, Panasonic has not done a very good job of keeping up with video trends and making a camera with specs that filmmakers really want. It does look like good news is on the horizon has rumors about a Panasonic 4K GH camera have begun to spread.
The Canon C100 has a Super 35mm CMOS and records 24 Mpbs AVCHD codec. It has the same ISO range as the Canon C300: 320 – 20,000 and also offers Canon Log (aka C Log) Gamma profile.
Canon’s C100 camera was especially designed with run-and-gun style shooting in mind. It offers built-in ND filters, One Shot Auto Focus, and Push Auto Iris, and a built-in microphone.
