We rent the Panasonic GH4 and YAGH Box.
This DSLR’s 16 MP live MOS sensor can record UHD 4K 3840X2160 and DCI 4K 4096X2160 at 24p. The GH4 offers a variety of recording formats, including AVCHD, AVCHD Progressive, 200 Mbps All-Intra, 100 Mbps IPB MOV, and MP4 formats. Internally, the camera records 4:2:0 8-bit and you can send out 4:2:2 8-bit via the HDMI.
The GH4 offers a variety of frame rates, up to 60 fps in full HD. The camera can also shoot even higher frame rates in variable slow motion, up to 96fps. However, it should be noted that at 96 fps the camera line-skips and pixel bins more aggressively, resulting in a softer image that may have some moire and aliasing issues.
Panasonic’s GH4 features a 3” OLED monitor, as well as an OLED live view finder. The 3.0″ monitor features a 1,036K-dot resolution, while the LVF features a 2,359K-dot resolution. These displays feature 100% coverage and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. An Eye Sensor automatically switches between the Live View-Finder and the rear monitor, for easy shooting with both.
The YAGH interface unit has been specifically designed to make the GH4 ready for professional workflows. It has (2) XLR inputs with independent volume control of the left and right channels. It also has an audio level display as well as phantom power.
The YAGH box also provides (4) BNC connectors: (2) 3G-SDI capable and (2) HD-SDI capable. It outputs quad-link SDI 4K video in 4:2:2 10-bit, dual-link 4:2:2 10-bit 1080p up to 60 fps, or four simultaneous 1080p streams up to 30 fps – all with timecode. The Interface Unit also has a BNC connector for timecode input, and converts the GH4’s micro HDMI output to a full-sized HDMI output. For power, a 4-pin XLR 12VDC input is available.
