Panavision appears to be looking for new ways to stay relevant in the digital era. Today they announced that they have have developed their own patent-pending accessories for Sony’s F55 camera.
At the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography this past week a new prototype 70mm digital Panavision camera was on display. Apparently Panavision didn’t give away too much information about the camera, but we do know that the camera has a 70mm sensor that can be scaled down to 42mm, or 35mm. It will record to an on-board SSD and is expected to record DNxHD, ProRes, in RGB, and (hopefully) RAW.
This is pretty exciting since we haven’t heard much on the digital camera front from Panavision since the Genesis HD which is now considered outdated. We’re looking forward to hearing more about this camera and maybe seeing some footage!
