We definitely know the waiting list for DRAGON updates is long, but no one was exactly sure who would be where on the priority list. Yesterday, on REDUser, Jarred released the in order in which they would roll out DRAGON. He also released some exciting news, they have “slipped HDR-X in when nobody was looking”. HDR-X wasn’t expected until a later firmware update.
Previously, RED has only released still images from it’s new 6K sensor, Dragon. Yesterday, director Mark Toia released the first video from the Dragon sensor, and it looks absolutely beautiful.
RED made a splash at NAB this year by installing new Dragon sensors right on the showroom floor. With 6K resolution, 16 stops of dynamic range, and a native ISO of 2000, Epic owners were dying to know when they could upgrade. Well, Jared Land just let everyone on REDUser know that customer upgrades will begin the first week of September.
RED has finally launched a program that gives both students and schools a break on RED products. Discounts vary from product to product, generally 10-15% off. The RED Education Program will probably be more beneficial to schools since most student still cannot afford to drop tens of thousands of dollars on a camera. However, if you are lucky enough to afford it, now is definitely a good time to buy!
