The MoVI Pro is the newest, hottest toy in camera movement. In case you’ve heard of the MoVI but don’t know all of the ins-and-outs of shooting with it, we wanted to make a post and video so that you can become more familiar with it. Keep reading below the jump to learn about how to balance the MoVI, how it works, tips for shooting with it, and how to build a complete MoVI shooting package.
By now anyone in the film world with an internet connection has probably seen or heard about the Freefly MoVi camera stabilizer. We got to play with the MoVi a couple of months ago at Cinegear, and it is pretty impressive! However, there’s quite a few gimbal camera stabilizers out there in the works.
The internet has exploded with excitement today over a new camera stabilizer, the MoVI by Freefly. After seeing the video of Vincent Laforet using it, I have to say I am also pretty excited.
Freefly hasn’t released too much information about it yet, an e-mail to them received an automated response saying that they would be giving out details at NAB next week. It is expected to cost about $15,000 with a rumored $7500 version in the works.
The Freefly Movi uses a 3 axis gyroscope to stabilize your camera. I don’t have exact details but it is supposed to be lightweight and portable.
We’ll update next week when we have more information next week at NAB.
The Steadicam was invented by Garrett Brown back in the 70’s and is one of the most visually engaging shots that a filmmaker can use.
Larry Wright over at Refocused Media has put together an inspirational montage of some of the most iconic Steadicam shots from both film and television over the past four decades.
Here is what Larry had to say about the video:
“I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of “top” clips over at steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. After locating what sources I could from the top 50 or so, I decided to stick with the order presented on the site (accurate as of March 1, 2013).
While I do hope you enjoy my video, there are many other clips that I was not able to source as well as many great clips that have yet to be rated into the “top” ranks, so please head over to steadishots.org and show your appreciation for the great service they provide.
For a complete list of clips by order of appearance, please visit here: refocusedmedia.com/the-art-of-steadicam/ “
Did any of your favorite Steadicam shots not make the montage? Have any awesome Steadicam shots from your own shoots? If so, share them here in the comments!
