GoPro augments its already impressive action camera line with the HERO8 Black, the versatile next-generation action cam designed to capture smooth, stable footage of your latest adventure, from a simple boat trip to a wild jump-off-a-mountain ride. The HERO8 Black features updated HyperSmooth 2.0 stabilization to produce smooth, gimbal-like movement at all supported frame rates, without the need for a gimbal. Additional updates include a sleeker physical design with a “folding fingers” type base for fast mounting, a redesigned battery door for quicker battery changes, a lens with twice the impact resistance as the HERO7, an optional Battery Mod for nearly 2.5x more battery life, an optional flip-up Display Mod to make viewing your frame easier, an optional LED Light Mod, and an optional Media Mod to expand your accessory possibilities.

The GoPro HERO8 Black supports up to UHD 4K video resolutions, and time-lapse, up to 1080p240 slow motion, and super-slow-motion video. Still images can be captured in up to 12MP resolution in bursts of up to 30 images per second with the updated SuperPhoto with HDR support that helps reduce blur and enhance detail in low-light situations. It also features an updated Night-Lapse function to shoot and process up to 4K time-lapses at night. The LiveBurst function allows you to record 1.5 seconds before and after your photo to give you more choices for the best frame. The lens field of view (FOV) options increase to four modes: Narrow, Linear at 24.4mm, Wide at 16.5mm, and SuperView at 15.1mm.

Like its predecessor, the HERO8 Black supports direct streaming to Facebook Live. It’s also waterproof to 33′, suiting it for surfing, snorkeling, and swimming activities. Separately available floats and housings are available for additional water support and even deeper underwater activities down to 196′. The touchscreen provides quick and easy management, but when your hands are full, the HERO8 Black understands 15 voice commands in over ten languages and accents so you can verbally control the HERO8 Black. Just shout “GoPro, take a photo,” and your HERO8 will use your current settings to snap a photo, making selfies a breeze.

New Features in HERO8 Black

 • Smaller, more streamlined design
 • Swapping mounts and changing batteries has been made even faster
 • Lens is two times more impact resistant
 • Improved HyperSmooth 2.0 stabilization and TimeWarp 2.0 time-lapse
 • Night-lapse and LiveBurst support
 • Slow-motion up to 1080p240 and stability improvements
 • Change easily between lens FOV with Narrow, Linear, Wide, and SuperView modes
 • Media Mod option can add more lighting and audio as well as another screen
 • Optional Battery Mod multiplies runtime 2.5x
 • Optional Display Mod and Light Mod add more capabilities.

GoPro’s newly released Hero 7 Black replaced the Hero 6 Black as the company’s flagship camera. While the Hero 7 Black’s specs are basically the same as those of the Hero 6 Black, there are some added new features that truly set it apart.

Living up to its action camera moniker, the GoPro Hero 7 Black is designed to capture super-smooth footage of your latest, greatest, not-so-serene adventures. The Hero 7 Black comes with new ‘Hypersmooth’ electronic image stabilization, which GoPro founder Nick Woodman called “the best in-camera video stabilization in any camera, ever”. The Hero 7 Black’s HyperSmooth stabilization produces a gimbal-like flow without the added bulk of a gimbal.

GoPro Hero 7 Black Stock Photo

Related to HyperSmooth is a new time-lapse mode called TimeWarp. TimeWarp allows you to capture super-stabilized time-lapse videos while you move about a scene. You can increase the speed up to 30x to turn longer activities into shareable moments.

The new SuperPhoto feature is GoPro’s attempt to replicate the intelligent auto modes seen on smartphones which can automatically recognize scenes and apply the optimal camera settings such as HDR, local tone mapping, or noise reduction. In addition to recognizing scenes, GoPro says the Hero 7 Black will be able to detect faces and smiles; an ability that will also help it to pick the right clips for its automated QuikStories edit available on the Quik app.

Finally, the Hero 7 Black is the first GoPro that allows you to live stream directly to Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitch at 720p output; a feature that will undoubtedly be a big selling point for those with dreams of internet stardom!

Last month, GoPro unveiled their newest action-camera in their popular Hero series, the Hero 6 Black. The Hero 6 Black outwardly looks exactly the same as the Hero 5, which means that you won’t have to buy all new mounts or accessories for the camera. Probably the most important feature of the Hero 6 is the introduction of the GP1 processor, which enables features that were previously unavailable, including the ability to record both 4K at 60fps, and 1080p at 240fps. This means you can get stunning slow-motion footage in full HD and a much smoother Ultra HD image. The GP1 processor also enables a new and improved stabilization algorithm that will result in images that look like they’ve been shot using a gimbal.

The Hero 6 Black offers major improvements to still photography as well, including a new touch-screen digital 2x zoom. The new GP1 processor offers better dynamic range and HDR capabilities, which will yield incredibly vibrant images with improved detail. Additionally, the Hero 6 Black can take exposures up to 10 seconds long, enabling users to take photos at night even with minimal light.

GoPro Hero 6 Black Camera Stock Photo

Another key update in the Hero 6 Black is the addition of 5GHz Wi-FI, which greatly speeds up the transfer of content to your phone for use with QuickStories. The GP1 processor analyzes camera motion and uses facial and audio recognition to automatically select and edit the footage and cut it to music to create a quick story.

GoPro Hero 6 Black full specs:

 • Videos: up to 60 fps in UHD 4K, up to 120 fps in 1440p, up to 240 fps in 1080p
 • Photos: up to 12MP, 30 fps burst, time-lapse mode, raw file option, Wide Dynamic Range mode
 • HDR & RAW photography
 • Advanced wind-noise reduction using 3 microphones
 • Waterproof up to 33′
 • Built-in GPS
 • Rear touch screen display
 • Custom GP1 processor
 • Voice controls
 • Improved EIS, dynamic range and low light performance
 • Digital video stabilization
 • 5GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity

As a leader in anamorphic adapters, it was only a matter of time before Letus announced its new AnamorphX-GP adapter for GoPro cameras. The Letus AnamorphX-GP is a 1.33x anamorphic adapter used with the GoPro Hero 3+ to capture footage in a cinematic 2.39:1 aspect ratio.

Letus currently has the AnamorphX-GP listed with the following info:

Aerial photographers/videographers will also benefit from the extremely small form factor of the AnamorphX-GP. When paired with a brushless gimbal on a multirotor, this adapter will allow users to capture sweeping cinematic footage from the air without investing in a heavy lifter or incurring the added risk of flying 10’s of thousands of dollars of gear around.

The GoPro anamorphic adapter also maintains the waterproof integrity of the GoPro 3+ housing allowing for underwater anamorphic footage! Surfers, divers, and other aquatic adventurers now have the ability to capture true 2.39:1 anamorphic format videos. Add cinematic style the next time you drop in on a beautiful double overhead that is barreling perfectly in front of you!

Like to jump out of airplanes, off cliffs, or from bridges? Capture it even more dramatically with the AnamorphX-GP! No need to change out your GoPro mounts or rigging. Simply attach the Letus anamorphic adapter to a GoPro 3+ housing and shoot! No bulk or weight of traditional anamorphic camera setup.

The Letus AnamporphX-GP for the GoPro Hero 3+ opens up endless possibilities for capturing 2.39:1 cinematic footage for any filmmaker at any level. So whether you are sending a weather balloon to the edge of space or just spending the weekend at the beach with the family, take your GoPro to the next level with the Letus AnamorphX-GP!

Letus Company Logo

Feature:

– 1.33x squeeze factor

– Custom CNC aluminum housing

– Use the GoPro Hero3+ waterproof housing for mounting. The adapter replaces the waterproof lens housing element. The unit will retain waterproof property.

– In 1080 mode, when the Letus AnamorphX-GP is attached, it will convert the 16:9 aspect ratio into 2.39:1 aspect ratio without the need for cropping (post production de-squeeze is required).

– In Superview mode the GoPro records in 4:3 aspect ratio and digitally stretch the image into 16:9 aspect ratio referred to as dynamic stretching by GoPro. The center of the image is kept the same but the outer of the image is progressively stretched outward and that is what causes the distortion, especially on the edges. This is why GoPro does not recommend shooting people on the edges in superview mode for the distortion will make people on the side look much fatter than they really are. When using with the AnamorphX-GP, the extra 33% (1.33x) field of view will then create a 16:9 image that compensate for this digital stretch. As a result, the GoPro in superview mode with AnamorphX-GP yields a true 16:9 image where you can see people (objects) on the edges to have a more normal aspect* (not stretched). You can use the 16:9 images in superview mode with the AnamorphX-GP adapter as is and will not need to be de-squeezed in post.

The Letus anamorphic GoPro adapter is supposed to start shipping at the end of this month. The list price is currently $199 and will be available at Letus35.com.

The AnamorphX-GP is designed to work with the GoPro Hero 3+ housing. If you want to use this adapter with a GoPro Hero 3, it appears you will have to put it in the Hero 3+ housing to make it work.

New GoPro Hero3+ Black Announced, Is It Worth Upgrading? https://www.strayangel.com/new-gopro-hero3-announced-specs-upgrade/ https://www.strayangel.com/new-gopro-hero3-announced-specs-upgrade/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2013 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.strayangel.com/new-gopro-hero3-announced-specs-upgrade/ About a month ago, the internet started to buzz with word that a new GoPro camera was coming out soon. There were high hopes and talks of 4K at 30fps as well as 240fps at 720. While the GoPro Hero 3+ doesn't get there, there are still some things to be excited about.

The post New GoPro Hero3+ Black Announced, Is It Worth Upgrading? appeared first on Stray Angel Films.

]]>
First of all, the new Hero 3+ waterproof housing is 20% smaller and lighter. It is, however, only waterproof up to 131 feet (40 meters) as opposed to the previous case which was waterproof up to 197 feet (60 meters). This won’t be an issue for most people, and if it is you can still use one of the old waterproof cases with the Hero 3+.

One of the biggest improvements in the new GoPro is the lens. The new lens is an f/2.8 and has been completely rebuilt. It makes the image much sharper, something that will surely please filmmakers.

GoPro Hero 3+ Stock Photo

The GoPro Hero 3+ also improves visual quality by having an improved dynamic range. While we can’t exactly say how much better it is, GoPro claims it has improved by 33%. The software has also been tweaked to improve color balance.

Other improvements include a “SuperView” mode for a wider POV, an improved Wi-Fi chip (less lag when viewing from the app), a 25% better battery life, two redesigned microphones for improved audio, and an auto low-light mode.

While it isn’t quite the 4K at 30 or 24fps that filmmakers had hoped for, we think the lens and dynamic range improvements are pretty impressive.

As it turns out, these little guys pack a punch and deliver an amazing image for the size of the camera.

Filmmakers have found all kinds of creative ways to incorporate them into their projects. There are tons of accessories that make the GoPro an extremely versatile, useful camera. We’ve compiled a list of accessories we like the best and use the most.

GoPro LCD Touch BacPac

The LCD Touch BacPac is the absolute #1-must-have GoPro accessory. It attaches to the back of the camera and allows you to preview the image as well as review photos and videos. It’s also a touchscreen that lets you change the camera’s settings with ease.

The GoPole for GoPro

The GoPole is a compact, portable pole that allows you to capture rear and forward-facing POV footage. You can get closer to the action and also stabilize your GoPro while using the GoPole. The pole can be extended and locked at any length between 17”-40”.

GoPro Head Strap Mount

I prefer the GoPro Head Strap Mount to the Helmet mount. The Head Strap, in my opinion, gives you a better PoV perspective which captures more movement of your arms when using it for sports. It’s a favorite for skaters and snowboarders.

GoPro Head Strap Mount available for rent at Stray Angel Films.

GoPro Chest Mount Harness

The GoPro Chest Mount is one of the “must-own” mounts for GoPro cameras. You can strap it on to anyone’s chest and get a unique POV. I’ve seen the chest mount used on runners during a marathon for a documentary, on police officers in a reality show, or skaters and skiers for a dynamic action sports shot. It definitely comes in handy and for only $40 it’s worth having around.

GoPro Chest Mount available for rent at Stray Angel Films.

Floaty Backdoor for GoPro

The Floaty Backdoor for GoPro cameras is a must-have if using the camera anywhere in or around water. While the GoPro is waterproof, without the floaty backdoor it will just sink. While this may not be a big deal if you’re shooting in a pool, if you’re in an ocean or lake you may never see your GoPro again!

GoPro Floaty Backdoor available for rent at Stray Angel Films.

Pelican IM2050 Storm Case for GoPro Camera

If you’re putting together a GoPro kit, you probably have a lot of little accessories that are easy to lose. It’s ideal to buy a case like the Pelican to keep everything together. This way your GoPro and accessories will be protected during travel and on the set. Pelican cases are also waterproof and impact-proof.

While the camera is a great tool, it does have some limitations, and one of those being the inability to mount accessories with ease.

RedRock Micro’s Cobalt cage is here to solve that problem, as well as a few others. The Cobalt Cage can be used with or without the stock plastic GoPro housing. It protects your camera even better because it is impact-proof, crash-proof, crush-proof, and bulletproof! Using the cage instead of the plastic housing also eliminates the chance of fog ruining an otherwise beautiful shot!

The Cobalt Cage is made of precision-machined military-grade aluminum, and features integrated ¼”-20 threads that surround the camera in 360 degrees. This allows you to attach virtually anything to the GoPro including suction cups, Cardellini clamps, speed rail, or mafer clamps for mounting.

You can also attach accessories such as microphones and on-board LED lights.

The long-awaited Protune firmware update for the Go Pro Hero 2 is finally here! This firmware is very exciting because it unleashes the camera’s full image quality potential.

Not only does the Protune GoPro update allow the camera to now record at a data rate of 35 Mbps, giving you higher quality, less compressed files, but it also enables the camera to shoot at 24p. The ability to shoot at 24p combined with the new neutral color profile brings the GoPro cameras to an entirely new level!

We’ll be updating our GoPro’s to ProTune this week and if you have your own you’d like to update you can download the firmware here on GoPro’s site.
