The BURANO’s 8.6K sensor provides a massive 16 stops of dynamic range, producing phenomenal images with very low noise in conditions ranging from almost no light to blazing sunlight. It also offers excellent HDR imaging (high dynamic range) with unprecedented freedom when color grading in post-production.

Dual-base 800/3200 ISOs enable the BURANO to excel at low-light HDR capture. Its wide exposure latitude ranges from 6 stops over to 10 stops under 18% middle gray, for a total of 16 stops.

The BURANO supports multiple resolutions and frame rates, including full-frame 8.6K at 30 fps, full-frame cropped 6K at 60 fps, Super35 5.8K, and Super35 cropped 4K at 120 fps.

Support for resolutions ranging from HD to 8.6K enables the BURANO to obtain the highest quality images for all your productions. Supported internal recording formats include the new XAVC H, which uses the highly efficient H.265 codec to record 8K files, X-OCN LT for stunning raw images with efficient storage, and both XAVC-I and XAVC-L for UHD 4K and HD.

The camera’s default S-Cinetone color look offers the same soft, vivid tone as with Sony’s VENICE camera.

Expanding on the original FS7, Sony’s FS7 II Super 35mm Camera System is a flexible 4K camera system. Designed as a camera that is at home on productions as diverse as “Cinéma Vérité”-style documentaries, reality TV, commercial, and corporate applications. It features a Super 35mm sized sensor that allows you to capture images with cinematic depth of field. The camera incorporates a stronger locking E-mount that is fully compatible with E-Mount lenses, and supports all electronic connections. The locking mount reduces lens play, and allows you to use most 35mm lenses including PL, EF, Leica, and Nikon via optional adapters. This stronger E-mount is ideal for using heavier-long cine-zooms without the need for additional lens support.

Just behind the lens mount sits an electronic variable ND system that provides a clear filter and 3 user definable presets. The variable ND can be adjusted to provide between 2 and 7 stops of ND. The camera can capture footage to optional on-board XQD media cards in either DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at up to 59.94 fps or HD at up to 180 fps.

We rent the Sony A7s II. 

Sony’s A7s II is the newest version of their wildly popular A7s mirrorless digital camera.

This camera is considered a low-light champion. ISO 100-102400 offers “minimal noise”, and you can expand is even further to 409,600.

The A7s II features a full-frame 12.2 MP CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor. Internally, the camera can shoot UHD 4K at 30 fps as well as 1080p recording up to 120 fps. The 100 Mbps format is used to record clips within an MP4 wrapper with 4:2:0 sampling. The uncompressed HDMI out will allow you to externally record 4K with 4:2:2 sampling.

S-Log3 gamut profiles are supported on the A7s II. Using S-log3 gamma offers shooters 14 stops of dynamic range. S-Log2 is also available.
