The SmallHD FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX on-camera monitor integrates Teradek’s Bolt 500 wireless receiver with the FOCUS 7 daylight-viewable on-camera monitor. Using the built-in receiver, the FOCUS 7 can receive up to 1080p60 video from Teradek’s Bolt 500, Bolt 500 LT or Bolt 500 XT transmitters, or from a SmallHD’s FOCUS Bolt 500 TX, with a line-of-sight transmission distance of up to 500′.

ACs can easily pair the 7-inch monitor/receiver to a FOCUS Bolt 500 TX or Teradek Bolt 500 transmitter and enjoy exceptional HD wireless video with no perceptible delay (less than 1 ms).

The SmallHD OS3 software and PageBuilder user interface provide a variety of tools including HD waveform, vectorscope, false color and focus assist/peaking, anamorphic de-squeeze, framing guides, and storage of unlimited 3D LUTs via SD card. A built-in full-size SD card slot provides even more utility, allowing the application of real-time 3D LUTs, monitor profiles, and image overlays for shot matching. For focus pullers, the Teradek RT Screen Overlay enables distance markings to appear on-screen in real-time.

As with every SmallHD monitor from the Bolt line, the FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX comes with a set of grip handles to hold the unit comfortably. To mount on a camera or other equipment, The monitor comes equipped with four ¼”-20 threads and an optional 7″ tilt arm mounting accessory, making camera mounts easy. Stray Angel Films is now renting two new SmallHD HDR production monitors: The 1703 17″ HDR Production Monitor and the 2403 24″ HDR Production Monitor!

The SmallHD 2403 24″ and 1703 17″ HDR Production Monitors have a 1920 x 1080p (Full HD) display, with an 1100 NIT brightness LCD panel that features HDR preview backed by a 10-bit Color Intelligence engine with calibration capabilities. The 1100 cd/m², daylight-viewable, Full HD display panel can be driven by one of two SDI inputs or an HDMI input. Each input has a loop output for connecting other gear in-line without the need for a splitter.

All functionality of these monitors is accessed via the innovative Page Builder OS.

By implementing full aluminum construction and the provision for separately available user-replaceable polycarbonate screen protectors, SmallHD built these monitors to survive the rigors of production in studios and in the field. A top handle for carrying and a c-stand mount are included, so you’re ready to roll right out of the box.

The popular U.S. field monitor company, SmallHD, has just been acquired by Vitec, a British conglomerate. Vitec owns other well-known film equipment brands such as Litepanels, Anton Bauer, Manfrotto, OConnor, and Sachtler and Teradek.

Here is the official press release for the acquisition:

LONDON (December 11, 2014) – The Vitec Group today announced that it has acquired SmallHD, the North Carolina company known for its high-quality, high-definition, on-camera field monitors used by videographers, cinematographers, camera assistants and other creative professionals across the filmmaking world.SmallHD will be incorporated into the Vitec Group‘s Videocom division, complementing its existing brands.

SmallHD pioneered the design and manufacture of rugged, future-proofed field monitors based on the company’s experience in production, collaborations with other filmmakers, and from extensive customer feedback. SmallHD‘s association with the Vitec Group will enable it to bring a new range of innovative monitors to customers.

“With the rapid increase of independent filmmakers and videographers, the need for quality, high-performing, end-to-end solutions has never been stronger,” said Vitec Videocom CEO Matt Danilowicz. “There is definite synergy betweenSmallHD and Vitec Videocom, especially given that their pioneering drive matches our own. The acquisition enables us to offer another set of professional and innovative solutions for the production workflow, and takes us a step closer to fully addressing the needs of this expanding and exciting market.”

SmallHD was officially founded in 2009 by Wes Phillips and Dale Backus. The pair, along with a group of friends, had been creating spots for local businesses and entered the Doritos-sponsored Crash The Super Bowl contest with a spot entitled Live the Flavor. The resulting notoriety from winning brought national work in for the team. The demand to complete increasingly higher-calibre work made the SmallHD creatives and production crew aware of a need for better tools. Rather than buying off-the-shelf solutions, they were inspired to create them, specifically field monitors. The DP6 field monitor, their first mainstream product, not only met their own high standards but was immediately sought after by other filmmakers. When SmallHD won an unprecedented second Doritos Crash The Super Bowl challenge in 2010, the company used the winnings to develop its product line and expand manufacturing operations.

“We are looking forward to joining the Vitec Group of companies,” said Wes Phillips, founder and CEO of SmallHD. “It’s exciting for SmallHD to be included among the great brands that they represent. We have aspirations to continue to build outstanding monitors, and Vitec not only encourages that entrepreneurial spirit but offers the support and expertise we need to move forward.”

SmallHD joins the Vitec Videocom line-up of brands that serves its users in broadcast, cinematography and professional content creation. Other Vitec Videocom brands include Anton/BauerAutoscript, Autocue, Camera Corps, Bexel, Litepanels, OConnor, Petrol Bags, Sachtler, Teradek, The Camera Store, Vinten and Vinten Radamec.

Congratulations to SmallHD! The company grew from a modest beginning with the winnings from the Doritos: Crash the Superbowl Contest. You can learn more about the incredible origin story in this video:

We’re always trying to better serve our clients and readers in any way we can. We get asked a lot of filmmaking and production questions on a regular basis, so we’ve decided to regularly post videos that answer the more common questions we encounter.

Our newest video is about how to use waveform on a monitor. Our Lead Gear Tech, Sean, briefly goes over what waveform is, how to read it, and how it can be useful to you when shooting.

If there are any filmmaking how-to or tutorial videos that you would like to see, please let us know in the video comments:

Now Renting: SmallHD DP7 OLED Monitor https://www.strayangel.com/now-renting-smallhd-dp7-oled-monitor/ https://www.strayangel.com/now-renting-smallhd-dp7-oled-monitor/#respond Mon, 26 Aug 2013 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.strayangel.com/now-renting-smallhd-dp7-oled-monitor/ SmallHD makes great monitors at an affordable price. We’ve rented out their monitors for a few years now and were so stoked when we heard about the new DP7 Pro OLED onboard monitor. It produces a phenomenal image and a ton of features that shooters want.

The post Now Renting: SmallHD DP7 OLED Monitor appeared first on Stray Angel Films.

The DP7 Pro monitor is 7.7” and has a 1280×800 high definition display resolution. Because it is an OLED display, the DP7 has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, meaning you could incredibly dark blacks.

Check out the video below where we show the difference between the DP7 OLED display and the TV Logic LCD display.

As far as inputs go, the DP7 has SDI, HDMI, and CVBS. The monitor does allow signal conversion, meaning you could input to it from an SDI camera and output to something like a 17” director’s monitor that takes HDMI, or the other way around.

The monitor has virtually all the bells and whistles you could want an onboard monitor to have including vectorscope, waveform, LUTs, and false color.

For more information on how to rent the SmallHD DP7 OLED Monitor, email rentals@strayangel.com, give us a call or stop in for a demo. We’d love to see you!
