Now that Blackmagic has three different cameras in production, we thought everyone might like a quick overview of the differences between the trio: Cinema Camera, 4K Production Camera, and Pocket camera.
Blackmagic Cinema Camera – $2995
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera was the original Blackmagic Camera that took the low-budget filmmaking world by storm. The camera costs only $3K and delivers a 2.5K image along with 13 stops of dynamic range. It is available in Canon EF mount or micro four-thirds mount. Purchase of a Blackmagic Cinema Camera also includes a copy of DaVinci Resolve and UltraScope.

Blackmagic Production Camera – $3995
Taking NAB by storm for the second year in a year, Blackmagic announced its 4K Production Camera. While it may look almost exactly like the original BMCC, it has some upgrades that filmmakers will love. Not only does it deliver 4K resolution, but the BMPC also has a global shutter that virtually eliminates any rolling shutter issues.
Like the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, the Blackmagic Production Camera also comes with a copy of Davinci Resolve and UltraScope.

Blackmagic Pocket Camera – $995
Of all the Blackmagic cameras, the Blackmagic Pocket Camera is the one I’m most excited about. The footage that has come out of it so far looks fantastic, and the fact that it’s about the size of an iPhone makes it portable enough to shoot virtually anywhere. The native micro four-thirds mount is the only caveat as far as I’m concerned. However, it is very easy to use something like the Redrock Live Lens MFT Adapter in conjunction with the camera so that you can use Canon EF mount lenses.
The Blackmagic Pocket Camera is not only a great camera that can be used for phenomenal quality personal videos but imagine how fantastic it would be for a documentary. You’d be able to set-up and shoot anywhere. “Stealing” shots would be near effortless! I can’t wait to see all the creative things filmmakers are able to do with this camera.
