The much anticipated Blackmagic Cinema Camera has finally been making it’s way from the production line in to the hands of consumers.

They have also just released the new 1.2 Firmware that includes time lapse recording, aperture indicator when using compatible EF lenses, ExFAT formatting for SSD disks, SDI output support for RP-188 timecode and Thunderbolt support for Windows.

The available time lapse settings are as follows:

  • Frames: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
  • Seconds: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60
  • Minutes: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

We think people are probably most excited about the new time lapse feature as well as the aperture indicator. It’s also a good sign that Blackmagic has been so on top of these firmware updates. It really speaks volumes about the company and their commitment to making a quality product with all the features that filmmakers would like to see. Hopefully the next update will give the camera the ability to erase clips from the SSD.
